Jin’s anime sequel wish list
Everyone has at least a few anime series that they think are just begging for a sequel. There’s many reasons why sometimes a sequel would be so satisfying:
- The anime ended with a giant unresolved cliffhanger
- The anime’s production values or treatment of the source material was subpar. A sequel could “redeem” the franchise.
- The manga, on which the anime is based, have continued on and has progressed far beyond the end point of the anime series.
- As a fan, you’d just like to see a continuation of your favorite series.
With that said, here’s my list of what I’d like to see given the sequel treatment or perhaps even remade.
Shakugan no Shana

Shana, the melon bread-eating Flame Haze of Shakugan no Shana
Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. This series already had a second season, and frankly squandered most of it with filler consisting of the often overused amusement park and cultural festival episodes. Despite the filler, I feel that the last episodes of the second season redeemed the show. The show was finally getting interesting again with the reappearance of Hecate and Yuji being able to do more than just stand on the sidelines. There were just so many things left unresolved that a sequel or even an OVA that wrapped things up would be really nice.
Bamboo Blade

The girls of Bamboo Blade
This is yet another show that left with a semi-cliffhanger. Munroe high school finally gets its team together and loses in its first big tournament. Meanwhile, there’s hints that Tamaki, the team’s ace, will meet someone even stronger than the opponents she’s faced so far. There’s a short scene where the two future opponents pass each other, but of course the series ends before anything can be made of it. I’d like to see what became of the team with the new members and with Tojiro sensei finally coming back. By the way, it was a huge disappointment to see Tojiro not get together with the attractive female teacher (can’t recall her name at the moment).
Claymore

No. 47 Clare
Let me say upfront that Claymore, the anime series, was actually pretty good. The show had great music, wonderful pacing and did credit to the action and gore of the manga series. The only thing that blemished it was the anime-only ending it had, where it diverged 180 degrees from the manga. I admit grudgingly that the anime-only ending was okay, but honestly the manga’s ending (where they pretended to be dead and hid from the organization) was just better. The manga has gotten really good. That would be rich source material to continue this series for a second season. The only trouble would be on how to explain away the anime-only ending.
Ah! My Goddess

Skuld, Belldandy and Urd from Ah! My Goddess
Ah! My Goddess did recently release a two episode sequel of sorts called Ah! My Goddess: Fighting Wings. I loved it and would dearly love to see more. My interest in this series hasn’t diminished in the slightest even though this franchise is over 20 years old. What’s interesting is that manga has moved towards exploring the greater universe of Ah! My Goddess and doesn’t deal as much with Keiichi’s domestic life with Belldandy. I’d also like to see more closure in the relationship between Keiichi and Belldandy, perhaps even marriage if premarital sex is a no-no for goddesses.
Ai Yori Aoshi

Aoi Sakuraba and part of Kaoru's harem in Ai Yori Aoshi
This series is begging for closure. While you finally saw Aoi and Kaoru get intimate in Enishi - at least it’s strongly hinted, there’s no resolution about the larger issues regarding their relationship. Bottom line, I’d like to see them get married in the anime like they did in the manga. I’d also like to see closure with Kaoru and his other female companions, including a possible heart-breaking one with Tina Foster.
Tsukihime

Acrueid and Ciel of Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Tsukihime is actually better known as a visual novel than as an anime. The anime released in 2003 airing twelve episodes. The anime was honestly pretty poor compared to both the visual novel and even the manga that was based on it. A character as remarkable as Arcrueid honestly deserves better. For Tsukihime, I would love to see nothing less than a full fledged remake.
Do you have a list of anime you would like to see as sequels or ones that you feel should be remade? If so, share your thoughts. Also, check out my earlier article about manga that I’d like to see made into anime.
