Critics bash Street Fighter movie
Initial reviews of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li have come out, and as expected, they are scathing. It’s understandable why the film producers decided not to pre screen this movie for critics. The reviews are probably what they expected: universally bad.
On RottenTomatoes.com, the movie review aggregation site, The Legend of Chun Li has so far garnered an impressive 0% fresh rating. Still, with only 6 reviews for the movie listed, it is still too early to tell. However, all 6 reviews are listed as being rotten, the site’s category for a negative review.
IGN.com gave the movie 1.5 stars out of 5, saying that it just eked by with that rating. IGN noted that Kristen Kreuk was the only likable cast member in the entire film, with everyone else providing awful performances. They also panned the action sequences, saying the scenes were poorly staged and the wire work was outdated. Worse yet, the reviewer stated that he preferred the campier Van Damme Street Fighter movie over this one. Ouch!

Other reviews:
I much prefer the flamboyant badness of the ‘94 flick to the attractive, even-keeled mediocrity of this one. Jean-Claude Van Damme’s stock just rose considerably.
1.5 stars / 5: Chun-Li narrates much of it, and the dialogue would be excruciating if it weren’t laughable in the way she describes what is blatantly occurring on the screen. If nothing else, the movie is an ideal one for blind viewers.
-5 BDKs: As a fan of the video game series, I can honestly say that this is hands down one of the worst films I have ever seen. Chris Klein is so bad that he made the movie a comedy
I suppose the real question again is: why is there a story at all?
It’s not even pretty like the 1994 version. That movie had wonderful eye candy. This movie’s “gritty” look is just cheap and ugly. There are no sets and barely any costumes. They set up a sequel, but don’t be so sure of that. There’s not even an action freeze frame to close off the festivities. At least Van Damme can rest soundly knowing that his legacy remains intact.

The fact that it’s horrible only strengthens my resolve to watch this.
Actually, given the early bad reviews, my curiosity has been piqued. While I was steadfast in not going, I’ll probably give in and just go see it.
Anyhow, let me know what you think of it.
