Left to right: Eliza Dushku, Black Widow, Emily Blunt
In an interview on the Howard Stern show, Eliza Dushku stated her desire to play the Black Widow in the upcoming Iron Man movie. Dushku, best known as Faith in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and now star of her own show, Dollhouse, told Howard:
I’m so perfect for the Black Widow character, that they just need to get into it… They need to understand… I just learned Russian because I had to play a Russian girl in ‘Dollhouse.’ Maybe we could all tell them. Lets get on a Black Widow Iron Man 2 campaign.
The bluntness in which Dushku made her intentions plain does conjure up the image of Sean Young and her ill-fated campaign to play Catwoman. Snarky comments aside, I think Eliza deserves a shot. She’s beautiful enough, looks good in tight leather and if you’ve seen her on Dollhouse, her acting has matured since her days playing a rogue vampire slayer in Buffy. She also has the physicality to pull off the role of a beautiful and deadly super spy turned Avenger. The only thing you’d have to do is perhaps dye her hair or put her in a wig.
I sort of thought that Emily Blunt was a lock for the role. And though I’m not as familiar with Ms. Blunt, I think she’d do well in the role as well. Good thing I’m not the casting director, because I think I’d be terrible at making these types of choices.
