Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

In a recent press junket for the film “Knowing”, star Rose Byrne revealed that several of her friends were auditioning for a new George Lucas project: a live action television series set in the Star Wars universe. Lucas revealed back in 2007 that he was developing a new live action show, but any news of the project has been scant. It now appears that casting for the show is underway.

According to Lucas, the new series will take place between the time of Revenge of the Sith (Episode III) and Star Wars (Episode IV). The series will focus on minor characters and will follow the Rebel Alliance as it gains strength against the Empire. However, it’s unclear whether the characters will be Rebels themselves or, as Lucas hinted in an earlier interview, members of a crime syndicate. The perspective from a character from a crime syndicate will give the series a much more darker tone than previous Star Wars projects.

The series won’t premiere for quite some time as Lucas, like he’s done with the Clone Wars animated series, will film an entire year’s worth of shows before choosing a network to air the series.
