‘The Rock’ cast as Race Bannon

Just for a second go back to your childhood and try to remember Race Bannon in the old cartoon series Johnny Quest. I realize that many of you probably weren’t even born when Johnny was airing, but you probably at least caught a glimpse of that cartoon in Boomerang on the Cartoon Network or even snippets on Adult Swim. Now picture Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Race. Do you think it would work? Well you better get used to it, because ‘The Rock’ himself has confirmed he’s been cast as Dr. Quest’s bodyguard in the upcoming Johnny Quest film.
When I first heard the news, I was pretty down on it, but after thinking about it for awhile, the choice of Dwayne Johnson as Race has grown on me. I think he’ll pull it off, especially if they’re going for more of a reboot type of an approach instead of staying exactly true to the series. I’m kind of curious now to see if they’re going to dye his hair white or just keep it the way it is.
More up in the air is the role of Johnny Quest. ‘The Rock’ mentioned that a possible choice could be Zac Effron of High School musical fame. Zac’s an interesting choice, but isn’t he too old? I mean wasn’t Johnny supposed to be 12 or 13, and Zac is clearly a young man.

I'm more iffy about Zac Effron as Johnny Quest, but mostly due to the age gap.
Anyways, it looks like they’re getting serious about the film. I’ll be interested to see who gets to be Dr. Quest and Hadji.

So is this going to be a Johnny Quest musical?
It was the best show Hanna-Barbera ever made. The best Johnny quest is a 10 year old. You know…that age when your bullet proof, cocky, and more interested in what your not supposed to do than girls.
Race is more the navy seal, secret service type not the bulky, “I can crush a beer can on my head”, wrestler “Rock” type. I’m certain that Dwayne Johnson is a very intellegent man but the characters he protrays tend to substitute brawn for brains.
Looks like there trying to use star labling (somewhat stars) to bring some credibility to the movie. I’ve waited over 40 years for a Johnny Quest movie with real actors, I can wait a little longer for them to get it right. Maybe they’ll wake-up before they spend all that money on a flop.
