How I got rickrolled by Kotaku about Dragon Age

So this morning, I got lured in by this Kotaku article titled Dragon Age: Origins - A Tragedy in the Making? I say lured in because as much as I appreciate Kotaku for their extremely broad coverage of the gaming industry, I don’t like being rickrolled by a writer by making me think that a game that I’ve been following for awhile is in trouble for no reason.
AJ Glaser, who’s a regular writer for Kotaku, wrote about how Dragon Age is under tremendous expectations. That it’s being billed as the spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate and the fact that it’s ship date has been delayed to allow for a simultaneous release on both the PC and on gaming consoles makes its release that much more difficult. Want! Dragon Age

So I’ve been catching up on my gaming news and caught this on the Bioware web site. Apparently, Dragon Age is the spiritual successor to Baldur’s Gate (”go for the eyes, Boo!”) I loved Baldur’s Gate semi-turn based, pause and attack type system and been itching to have a new game with this system. It doesn’t bother me that it’s single player, though I do hope that there will be character customization options available. Also in looking at the screens, it looks like you can have a party of sorts as well too.
Great games of 2009
2008 was an awful year for games if your primary platform of choice is the PC. Arguably, the best game of the year was Fallout 3, and admittedly, it was pretty good. However, 2008 was also the year that a number of high profile games just tanked. It wasn’t enough that Hellgate: London had to announce it was shutting down but also Tabula Rasa. And with this economy, a number of others seem to be following suit. If you’re tired of the fantasy genre (I didn’t have much interest in either Warhammer or Age of Conan), then having the two premier non-sword and fantasy MMOs go belly up equals a pretty bad year for me.
I’m hoping that all that bad karma in 2008 goes away at the start of this year. Here’s three titles I’m eagerly hoping will make a strong showing this year.
