A million Chinese gold farmers!
So according to a recent article in Eurogamer, there’s one million Chinese employed in the virtual gold trade. Chinese gold traders is a $10 billion industry with some firms employing as many as 1,000 employees to mine the virtual gold. Unsurprisingly, 70% of the RMT activity is geared to World of Warcraft.
“So Blizzard really creates a miracle! I really can’t believe that a game can generate such a large market,” said a spokesman for SwagVault, a prominent gold selling company.
One million is truly a staggering number. That means there’s more people employed in “playing” a game to generate fictious gold than there are people in cities such as San Francisco, Denver or Seattle (counting just people within city limits not metropolitan area populations).
